When Chris came to his first workout at Nyack Boot Camp about 3 months ago he had been hearing from his mom how great our training is and finally decided to give it a try – maybe just to get her off his back, I don’t know. He told me his goal was to develop more strength, especially in the upper body.
After watching him move I realized that I had a lot of work to do. Chris is a distance runner and came into my training in obvious good shape. But his upper and lower body strength were out of balance, he did not move explosively and, like all runners, myself included, was challenged when it came to moving any way but forward. No worries there though. I soon realized that Chris came to us with the three things necessary to succeed in our method: discipline, the willingness to work hard and an open mind.
Well, we got to work and Chris jumped right in to our early morning program. I quickly began to see him begin to move more efficiently and then the strength gains started to come. He began using heavier weight, his squats were deeper his physical endurance was expanding. He was working his butt off and leaving every workout with nothing left in the tank.
Pretty soon his athleticism began to really explode. So when Chris came to me a few weeks ago and told me he ran the Spartan Race and performed much better than last year, I was not surprised and I was happy he was seeing the benefits. But that’s not the end of the story. . .
This past Monday Chris told me he ran his first ½ marathon (13.1 miles) since he started training with us. He improved on his previous personal best time by 10 minutes. TEN MINUTES! That’s mind-blowing. 30 seconds is a big improvement for a long race; 10 minutes is truly astounding, but, again I am not surprised. I have seen big results like this before with athletes from many different sports that use this training; golf, tennis, running – you name it.
